ALL LECTURES WILL TAKE PLACE IN  ROOM C  AT THE INTERNATIONAL CENTRE FOR THEORETICAL PHYSICS (TERRACE LEVEL)

The Research Project "Geometry of Algebraic Varieties", in collaboration with the  International School for Advanced Studies and the Abdus Salam International Centre of Theoretical Physics in Trieste,  is organizing a

                                              Workshop on Deformation Theory

which will take place from January 19 to 23, 2004. (The arrival and departure days will be January 18 and 24, respectively.)

The International School for Advanced Studies, together with the adjacent International Centre for Theoretical Physics, is located within the Miramare Castle Natural Park, in a pinewood on the seaside at about 8 km from downtown Trieste.

The scientific programme will be focused on the following four short courses:

S. Gutt (Université Libre de Bruxelles) Deformation quantization

V. Hinich (Haifa University) Deformations of sheaves of algebras

M. Manetti (University of Rome ''La Sapienza''), Differential graded Lie algebras and deformation theory

E. Sernesi (Third University of Rome) Introduction to deformation theory of schemes

The programme will include also the following talks:

I. De Gregorio, Deformations of functions on isolated  singularities

C. Faber, TBA

D. Kaledin, Fedosov quantization in an algebraic context

Le Dung Trang, TBA

Accommodation: Participants will be accommodated in one of the guest houses of the International Centre for Theoretical Physics or in hotels in downtown Trieste.

Support:  Some financial support may be available for younger participants. This will tipically consist in the payment of the hotel accommodation and in coupons to have meals at the ICTP cafeteria. A conference dinner will be offered to all participants by the organization.
