The Mathematical Physics Group of the International School
for Advanced Studies in Trieste and the Department of Mathematics of the
University of Genova organize a workshop on the applications of algebraic
geometry to physics (WAGP2002). The workshop will focus on **K-THEORY, DERIVED CATEGORIES AND STRINGS** and will take place on June 18 to 21, 2002, at the **Department of Mathematics of the University of
Genova**. The suggested arrival day is June 17 and
the departure day June 22.

The workshop is the sixth event of a series which aims
at fostering the interaction between mathematicians working in pure algebraic
geometry and researchers who are interested in applications ofalgebraic
geometry to physics. Information about the previous events (WAGP96, WAGP97,
SAGP99, WAGP2000, SAGP2001) may be obtained from the web page **http://www.sissa.it/fm/workshops.html**

**Minicourses:**

**M. Douglas,D-Branes on Calabi-Yau**

**H. Gillet, Introduction to K-theory**

**T. Pantev, Dualities and D-branes**

**P. Seidel,
Some (hopefully) useful homological
algebra**

**Invited Talks:**

**A. Caldararu, Stable singularities may not be stable, after all**

**R. Donagi, The gerbe of Higgs bundles**

**R.P. Horja, Derived categories and mirror symmetry**

**R. Minasian, Kaluza-Klein bundles and manifolds of exceptional holonomy**

**R. Szabo, D-branes, tachyons and K-homology**

**A. Tomasiello, Superpotentials for branes in Calabi-Yau manifolds**

**G. Vezzosi, Homotopy Algebraic Geometry**

**The programme will also include some
shorter communications.**

Genova is a city of about 700,000 inhabitants, located
half-way along a coast ("Riviera Ligure'') well known for its beauty.
It has a large and old historic centre. The nearest beaches (very often
located in picturesque villages) may be reached in about 20/30 minutes from
downtown.Information about the city and the surroundings may be obtained
from the web page **http://www.apt.genova.it**

Participants will be accommodated in hotels in downtown
Genova. Low-cost lunches will be available at the University Cafeteria in
the campus where the Department of Mathematics is located. The cost of accommodation
and meals for a 4-night stay may vary from 350 to 500 euros.

WAGP2002 is the sixth event of a series of workshops and
schools on algebraic geometry and physics. The previous events took place
in 1996 in Trieste (WAGP96), in 1997 in Medina del Campo, Spain (WAGP97),
in 1999 in Marseille Luminy (SAGP99), in 2000 in Trieste (WAGP2000) and
in 2001 in Como (SAGP2001). Information about these activities may be gathered
from the web links here under.
