The International
School for
Advanced Studies (SISSA) in
Trieste, Italy, is an institution devoted to research in pure science
(mathematics, physics and biology), and to the training of young
researchers in these areas through its curricula leading to PhD and
Master degrees and its post-doctoral fellowship programme. Via its Interdisciplinary Laboratory
for
Humanistic and Natural Sciences
(ILAS), SISSA is also active in the area of the communication
of
science and in the development of an interface between the humanistic
and scientific worlds.
I am in the
Mathematical Physics Sector of SISSA.
I do
my research and teaching in the area of algebraic and
differential geometry and in the geometric methods in string and
quantum field theory. If you are interested in pursuing graduates
studies in geometry at SISSA, or in a post-graduate fellowship working
in geometry or geometry-related mathematical physics at SISSA, or you
are in any way interested in the activity
of the SISSA
Geometry Group, please send me an e-mail.
Research
interests: Moduli spaces of framed sheaves, instanton counting, principal and vector (Higgs) bundles on projective
and Kaehler manifolds,
moduli spaces of instantons and moduli spaces,
mirror symmetry,
geometric methods in
string and quantum field theory, supermanifolds

I usually teach
(under)graduate
courses in algebraic
geometry, algebraic topology, differential geometry, gauge theory. The
notes of my
introductory algebraic topology and algebraic geometry course are
available in PDF
format
Since November 1st, 2003 I am
the Executive
Editor of the Journal of Geometry
and Physics -- a journal
devoted to
the publication of research papers in the interface between geometry
and physics. You are welcome to submit high-quality papers. Please
submit online via the Elsevier Editorial System.
Since 1996 I am organizing a series of Schools
&
Workshops on Algebraic Geometry and Physics.
The
last event of the series was the Workshop on Representations, Lie Theory and Physics, Maresias (Brazil), September 14 to 18, 2009.
Next event: WAGP2010 (Deformation, quantization, and algebraic index theorems), St-Jean-des-Monts, France, June 7 to 11, 2010.
Books:
with C. Bartocci and D. Hernandez Ruiperez, The
Geometry of
Supermanifolds, Kluwer 1991
with
C.
Bartocci and D. Hernandez Ruiperez, Fourier-Mukai
and
Nahm transforms in geometry and mathematical physics,
Progress in Mathematics 276, Birkhauser 2009.
