Laboratoire de Physique Théorique des Hautes Energies (Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique, Université Pierre et Marie Curie, Université Denis Diderot) and the Mathematical Physics Group of the International School for Advanced Studies (SISSA) in Trieste organize the 1999 Summer School on Algebraic Geometry and Physics (SAGP99).
The main topic of the School will Mirror Symmetry in String Theory, and a particular attention will be devoted to Special Lagrangian Geometry.
SAGP99 is the third event of a series of workshops and schools on Algebraic Geometry and Physics that started in September 1996 with a Workshop held at the International School for Advanced Studies in Trieste. A second workshop was organized by the Department of Mathematics of the University of Salamanca and was held in Medina delCampo (Spain) in September 1997. Information about these two workshops can be obtained from the web pages http://www.sissa.it/fm/wagp96.html and http://klein.usal.es/wagp97/welcome.html.
Format: The school will consist of four eight-hour courses, every lecturer giving a lecture every day. Some seminars by the participants will be given as well, but in a limited number. These will be planned during the school.
The following lecture courses are scheduled:
I. Dolgachev
(University of Michigan, Ann Arbor)
Introduction to string theory for
mathematicians
R. Donagi (University
of Pennsylvania, Philadelphia)
Integrable systems and string duality
B. Greene (Columbia University, New York)
Mirror Symmetry: Physical and Mathematical
Aspects
M. Gross (University of Warwick, U.K.)
Mirror symmetry and special Lagrangian
fibrations.
Expenses and support: Participants will be accommodated at Centre International de Recontres Mathematiques (CIRM) which is located on the campus of the School of Sciences in Marseille Luminy. Full board at CIRM will cost 2408 FF (single room) or 2032 FF (twin room), starting from dinner on September 6, and ending with lunch on September 14. Due to requirements by some funding institutions, a registration fee of 700 FF will be levied; junior participants may ask for its waiving.
It should be in principle possible for the organization to support fully or in part the living and/or travel expenses of some participants. This will depend on the outcome of our applications to funding institutions.
Travel information. For information about travel please link to the CIRM web page (http://cirm.univ-mrs.fr).
